The 1-to-1 Mentoring Program is a signature initiative of Emerging Women Leaders and key benefit available to members. To-date, more than 300 matches have been made between TEMPO members as mentors, and Emerging Women Leaders as mentees. The program brings greater definition to TEMPO’s focus on mentoring while fostering valuable connections across TEMPO and EWL.

Matches are made two times a year (winter and summer) based on information both mentors and mentees provide in a brief survey. A kickoff event is held after matches are announced to set our pairs up for success. NEXT MATCHING PERIOD: SUMMER 2024.

How often do matches meet?

A best practice in mentoring relationships is to meet once a month for two hours in total. To start out, it is expected that matches in our program meet at least once every other month, with check-ins during alternate months via phone, text or e-mail.

Who drives the relationship?
In our program, the mentee is expected to drive the meeting schedule and establish regular check-ins. However, like any relationship, it’s a two-way street. Mentors should not feel they have to “wait” for their mentees to reach out first, especially if it’s been a while since the last communication. Both parties should be equally committed to setting time to meet.

How long are we matched for?
Commitment is a minimum of one year. Matches can elect to continue as a formal match in the program at the one-year mark, continue informally OR end amicably if you feel you’ve achieved as much as possible.

What support or resources are provided to us through the program?
Based on feedback from both EWL and TEMPO members, this program is loosely structured, allowing each mentor/mentee pairing to take its own unique shape. Matches receive a welcome packet with ideas for getting started, first meeting agenda, possible topics to discuss together, goal setting, etc. We also provide simple tips outlining the roles of both a mentor and a mentee and suggested resources.
